Don't get me wrong, I love this laptop. It's beautiful. It's powerful, great sense of style, compact, built to last and it's priced competitively to boot. I really am in love. However -- not everyone wants to or can switch to Vista, myself included. Upon startup, first boot, idling on the desktop, Vista was using *choke* 1GB of RAM. (Half the total physical memory!!) I was clear vista had to go and ASUS sure does not make it easy. ASUS does not provide XP drivers but after a few hours of reading forums, I found that many users had used drivers from other ASUS products with complete success. I've since installed XP and every device is working perfectly. You will find extremely useful instructions here http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id=20071101223530203&board_id=3&model=G1S&page=1&SLanguage=en-us However annoying it may be, you do have to manually slipstream SATA drivers into your XP install. This laptop is great... but ASUS, common, give us XP support -- Vista is a pile of s**t.
