It's a fast machine

This is the Best Laptop Bargain-Dell Inspiron 1420

Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0Hz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
Memory: 2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
Screen: Anti-glare, widescreen 14.1 inch display (1280x800)

Pros --It's a fast machine (I upgraded to the 2.2GHz, 800Mhz 4M L2 Cache). I like the color (jet black vs. the standard Dell silver). The anti-glare widescreen is nice -- great workspace for the desktop. I like the footprint of the smaller (14.1) display; I don't think I would've liked the 15.4". LOTS of HDD, it's awesome. As much as I hate to say it, I don't mind Vista so much -- network setup (wired/wireless) is even easier than it is in XP (if you can believe it), and the GUI is pretty slick, although I find it comical that Dell partnered with Google and the Google desktop is standard. LOVE the media card slot -- makes image transfer ridiculously easy. Setup (when I turned the PC on for the 1st time) was a piece of cake -- Dell really makes it easy to get started on a new machine.
ConsMS Works is just plain awful -- don't install it when you get it. Spend the money and buy MS Office; it'll be worth it in the long run. The Google desktop is slick, but, I had to spend too much time "removing it", and would've preferred to have it set as an option to activate when I started up the machine. I bought the Dell Photo AIO Printer 926 -- I'll write another review, but, great price, footprint is WAY too big.
As far as the machine itself, I have no real "cons" to write....I really like this laptop.

What a beautiful machine and performance this laptop puts out. The battery life is exceptional, not to mention the 14" wide screen. This laptop has a fairly cheap starting price. In my opinion, this laptop has it all-looks, performance, price.

I really like the long lasting battery that this labtop has. The dual core processer is not that fast as they said it would be on T.V. and in ads, but its still as fast as any other labtop that is out there. Its very thin and easy to carry, if you wanted a labtop that has all standard features I would recommend this one.

Good features..Small package...Value for money

I will give my review for each and every component

Build - Good. The Microsatin finish does not attract fingerprint, however the black color is matt finished and therefore is a magnet for fingerprints. Red,Midnight Blue and Espresso Brown are cool colors

Keypad - Very comfortably placed and no noise while typing
Touchpad - Good but at times the scroll feature might be effective

Screen - Pretty good. I did not find any grainy screen however I can find some light leakage when I watch movies or in completely dark environment. However I dont think its a major concern

Webcam - Excellent. The 2MP camera is neat for video conferencing is clear(also depends on your net connection)

MediaDirect - Good but have not tried a lot

DVDROM, at times produces a huge noise while reading

Media card reader - Not good at all. I found it really impossible to get my SD card back.

Speakers - Good, the sound is too good to watch a movie and listen to music however it does not play high bass sounds

Overall, its a good package with a decent price.
