Well-hyped machine I purchased it with 3GB RAM and the 2.5G Penryn CPU. Well worth it. Has power rather than battery life but actually makes Vista pleasant to use.
plus and minus

When it's working it's a dream. The problem with this laptop (besides the exorbitant price) is that it will break on you. Under warranty the keyboard broke. Out of warranty the video card broke. To replace the video card when out of warranty, you had to get the lower memory video card. They would NOT sell me the original. The good news is that it can be fixed at home with little mechanical skill. Make sure you get the longest extended warranty you can. On this machine it will pay for itself. Tho only other minus is that even though it has a very large screen, the keyboard has no number pad. I missed this after using the machine. The machine when running was great. I was able to play games, load Linux, run whatever I wanted. The leds are fine but are only useful for bling, nothing practical. I ended up turning mine down and ignoring them.
A must have !

After a month or so of use it appeared that the pc would not boot up. The screen was blank. Attached to an external monitor worked fine. Dell replaced the screen- didn’t work, replaced the video card- nope, replaced memory-nope, replaced power supply?- nope. Replaced mother board- YES!!!. Works fine now but took two weeks to finally repair. Six months use with Windows Vista- Do not care for Vista.

I have the 1505. Overall pretty good. I've had it about 6 months now. One complaint is all the "crap" software they put on HD. Screen is very nice, 7200RPM HD and 2GB RAM helps too. Would I consider another Dell? Yes....!

This is the Best Laptop Bargain-Dell Inspiron 1420 Processor: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0Hz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache) Memory: 2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM Screen: Anti-glare, widescreen 14.1 inch display (1280x800) Pros --It's a fast machine (I upgraded to the 2.2GHz, 800Mhz 4M L2 Cache). I like the color (jet black vs. the standard Dell silver). The anti-glare widescreen is nice -- great workspace for the desktop. I like the footprint of the smaller (14.1) display; I don't think I would've liked the 15.4". LOTS of HDD, it's awesome. As much as I hate to say it, I don't mind Vista so much -- network setup (wired/wireless) is even easier than it is in XP (if you can believe it), and the GUI is pretty slick, although I find it comical that Dell partnered with Google and the Google desktop is standard. LOVE the media card slot -- makes image transfer ridiculously easy. Setup (when I turned the PC on for the 1st time) was a piece of cake -- Dell really makes it easy to get started on a new machine. ConsMS Works is just plain awful -- don't install it when you get it. Spend the money and buy MS Office; it'll be worth it in the long run. The Google desktop is slick, but, I had to spend too much time "removing it", and would've preferred to have it set as an option to activate when I started up the machine. I bought the Dell Photo AIO Printer 926 -- I'll write another review, but, great price, footprint is WAY too big. As far as the machine itself, I have no real "cons" to write....I really like this laptop.
Great gaming notebook!
By: Anonymous November 6, 2007
Review:
he M1710 has a 17" widescreen and comes in a choice of two colors, "formula red" or "metallic black". The Dell XPS M1710 is the gaming notebook from Dell. The Dell XPS M1710 design is, in a word, brazen. In daylight the striking red or metallic black lid will catch the eyes of just about anyone nearby. In the dark, if you stand far enough away this thing looks more like a UFO as the lights glow in a somewhat eery yet cool manner. The XPS M1710 has a 17" widescreen WUXGA (1920 x 1200 resolution) LCD with the Dell TrueLife (glossy screen) treatment. The Dell XPS M1710 has a very efficient and quiet cooling system. Not only is it quiet, but it also is has a very smart design. The keyboard on the XPS M1710 actually looks and feels quite a bit different to all other Dell notebooks. The keyboard keys are not black, as they so typically are, but rather a silver color that blends with the rest of the case color. The touchpad is very cool with the XPS lighting, but more importantly it's actually a decent size and works well with scroll zones on the right side for vertical scroll and on the bottom for horizontal scroll. If this were the state fair and the contest were for best performance notebook, then the blue ribbon would go to the XPS M1710. The coolest thing being, you could even adjust the lights on the M1710 to blue to match that ribbon!
Inspiron 1520 Review
By: Anonymous November 6, 2007
Review:
This Inspiron 1520 weighs about six and a half pounds and is considered a mainstream consumer notebook. The overall look is very different, in a good way. The prior line of Inspirons featured a somewhat odd shaped keyboard that was set very close to the LCD, and a rather large touchpad placed in the middle of a vast sea of silver plastic. The Inspiron 1520 feels very solid. The only issue, which has been mentioned elsewhere, is the screen latch, which does have some play. The touchpad is eminently usable and did everything I expected of it with no discomfort or untoward behavior. Keys are responsive and have good travel. The 1520 would seem to make a lot of sense for a wide range of notebook users, and a little bit of latch looseness should not be a determining factor.
Good Value for Money..No bluetooth

The first thing thing that anyone would think about when buying a Laptop is Durability and Quality. Looking at those aspects with a Low budget i think the best option is a Inspiron 1501. It comes with a power packed AMD Turion X2 processor, although the same is not configurable on the website of DELL, on calling the customer care they give you options of going up to a TL-56 processor(1.8Ghz, 1MB Cache,533Mhz FSB) which is really blazing fast as compared to any of the Intel Platforms that i have worked on till date. It also comes with a integrated 256MB ATI Radeon Graphics Card (ATI as well all known has now merged with AMD) thereby coming up with fabulous graphics at a very high FPS. The major drawbacks of this model are that it doesnt come with DELL MediaDirect and Integrated Bluetooth option which i think DELL would have to give a serious rethink about following the widespread popularity of AMD Based Laptops abroad. Atleast for the Bluetooth one could surely think about a Handy Bluetooth Dongle which nowadays is inexpensive. All in all, if you are looking at power packed performance I think one must seriously consider this model.
Dell Vostro 1500 - Gr8 Laptop & Gr8 Price
By: goodboyz1988 November 6, 2007
Review:
The Dell Vostro 1500 is the small business equivalent of the Inspiron 1520. This computer, starting at less than $600, can be configured with anywhere from a Celeron M540 processor to a much faster Core 2 Duo 7500. Unlike the Inspiron model, an AMD option is unavailable.
Configuration
* Intel Core 2 Duo T5470 (1.6Ghz)
* 1GB 677Mhz DDR2 SDRAM
* 120G 5400RPM Hard Drive
* nVidia GeForce 8600M GT, 256MB
* 8x DVD Burner with Double Layer capability
* 15.4” widescreen anti-glare screen (1280x800)
* Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate)
* Dell Wireless 1505 Mini-Card (Pre-802.11n)
* 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
* Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic
The Dell Vostro 1500 is a moderately powerful and relatively inexpensive system for businesses and home users alike. Its good build quality and good configuration options allow it to be an excellent and versatile machine for many different applications. Despite some design flaws, the Vostro 1500 is still an excellent machine.
Pros:
* Tough construction
* Many configuration options
* XP available preinstalled
* Good keyboard
* Quiet
* Comprehensive manual
* Fast support
Cons:
* Heavy!
* Mediocre screen
* Tinny speakers
* Slow hard drive
* Picky wireless card
so if you want performance and price go for it

What a beautiful machine and performance this laptop puts out. The battery life is exceptional, not to mention the 14" wide screen. This laptop has a fairly cheap starting price. In my opinion, this laptop has it all-looks, performance, price.

The specs between my new Vostro 1500 and the other Dell were nearly identical with the exception of the operating system. The Vostro has a great solid (confidence building) case, with a beautiful screen (spend the $50 for the upgrade), the all black case is really appealing. Operations ... It is everything I have ever wanted in a PC. This unit has replaced my desktop that I use for regular office work, plus audio editing (sound forge 8) and photo editing (Adobe CS2), and this unit is flawless!!! I have the Core 2 Duo 2.0 ghz w/ 4mb/L2 cache and it does not miss a beat. I was running virus scan, Photoshop, Firefox and Outlook, with ZERO lag or delay in the work I was doing. I did not even realize the virus scan was running until I noticed the harddrive noise. In short ... I love it.

A big corporation I did technical support for used a lot of these and I was constantly working with them. These are business class laptops mainly designed for word processing, web browsing and email. For those types of task + the other common computer task (listening to music, viewing photos, etc) this laptop is great. It's not designed for playing video games and it's not the lightest laptop in the world but it does make a great mobile office. For ultimate mobility this unit includes 802.11 a/b/g wifi built so you can stay active on the move. It's not the world best laptop but it'll get your common computing task done. Great laptop for college of for a small home/office. Beware this laptop is no feather weight (almost 7lbs).

The Dell XPS M2010 is what I would call one of the best notebooks out currently that Dell manufactures. Mine came with a 120GB HDD which offered me tons of storage. It also had an Intel Duo Core processor which made everything so much faster then a single core processor.

1gb RAM 60gb HDD Built In wireless Ease of use Crisp screen (widescreen 14.1") Long battery life on 6 cell Surprisingly good sound, superb when using headphones For the price i was truley amazed at how good this notebook is, especially for the ridiculously low price. I thought it may be too good to be true, but at that price i couldn't pass it up...and i was very pleasantly surprised. I installed Wolfenstein Enemy Territory and it ran very smooth with the standard graphics settings. I would not hesitate in recomending this to anyone.

This little but durable notebook packs a 2.16 Ghz core duo processor! It has a 12.1 inch screen which is small but not bad for being so portable The hinges on the screen are strong, and you wont get ripples in the screen if you press on the back because it is protected by magnesium alloy material. It has a Geforce 7400 256mb graphics card, thats way better than most others in its class of 12.1".It plays most games smoothly and it supports up to 4 GB RAM. Also it has an integrated 1.3 mega pixel web cam! Overall a nice little pc!
I love it

Great Standard Labtop

Review:
The hard drive space is ok, not good or bad at 60 GB. It is kind of hard to open sometimes and its not that light. The screen is a good size to view the internet on. The sound speakers are standard as any other labtop. The 1501 is very nice in keeping the labtop cool. I have never had mine that hot when Im busy working on it. The graphics card isen't bad at all either for a labtop. I would recommend getting the 1505 which cost a little bit more but it will give you more ram and in my opinion a little faster.

I really like the long lasting battery that this labtop has. The dual core processer is not that fast as they said it would be on T.V. and in ads, but its still as fast as any other labtop that is out there. Its very thin and easy to carry, if you wanted a labtop that has all standard features I would recommend this one.
XPS M2010 - Excellent Laptop
By: Anonymous November 5, 2007
Review:
This laptop is probably the best I've ever used. This laptop is stacked. Core2Duo, 4 gigs of Ram, quality graphics card, and 500 gigs of memory. A lethal combination. I mainly use this computer for gaming. I have another laptop for work purposes, but I decided to splurge one day for this behemoth, and let me tell you, it was worth it. It never slows down, and I've never had any lag due to any graphics rendering problems. It gets amazing FPS. All you need is a decent internet connection. The way it is designed is so sleek. A lot of my friends thought it was a desktop the first time they saw it. It has a detachable keyboard, and a pretty big screen for a laptop (20.1 inches). It's perfect for watching movies, or streaming videos. In conclusion, this laptop is worth it, even with it's hefty price tag. It's nice because it's like a desktop that you can pack and go. Bring it on a plane, bring it to work, or bring it to school, this laptop can be used anywhere!
Dell Inspiron 1300 Review
By: Anonymous November 5, 2007
Review:
Inspiron 1300 is a 15.4" widescreen notebook and they have a good specifications (Intel Pentium M procesor, 512mb RAM, 60GB HDD) and weight is 6.7lbs (with 4-cell battery). This is a budget notebook and as such is constructed in a manner to keep costs down. The Inspiron 1300 is a widescreen notebook that uses a WXGA resolution (1280 x 800). The speakers are located on the right and left front sides, which is good placement since they fire forward to where you are sitting. The keyboard on the 1300 is fine. The keys have a nice click when pressed, but are not loud. The touchpad is as usable as they get, its size is appropriate and there's enough room to move your finger around. When using the 1300 for simple web browsing and typing this review and with screen brightness set to half the battery ran out after 2hours and 20 minutes. The Dell 1300 ends up being a fine notebook for general usage and as an extension of a desktop computer. Obviously this notebook is not for gaming, but if you're looking for a cheap solution for a portable PC so you can do work or surf the web from the couch, or have a cheap PC in the dorm room then the 1300 is fine.

I will give my review for each and every component Build - Good. The Microsatin finish does not attract fingerprint, however the black color is matt finished and therefore is a magnet for fingerprints. Red,Midnight Blue and Espresso Brown are cool colors Keypad - Very comfortably placed and no noise while typing Touchpad - Good but at times the scroll feature might be effective Screen - Pretty good. I did not find any grainy screen however I can find some light leakage when I watch movies or in completely dark environment. However I dont think its a major concern Webcam - Excellent. The 2MP camera is neat for video conferencing is clear(also depends on your net connection) MediaDirect - Good but have not tried a lot DVDROM, at times produces a huge noise while reading Media card reader - Not good at all. I found it really impossible to get my SD card back. Speakers - Good, the sound is too good to watch a movie and listen to music however it does not play high bass sounds Overall, its a good package with a decent price.
